Imtaz Khaliq MBE has been named by Cosmopolitan as one of the four top tailors in London. She was awarded an MBE
for her services to the fashion industry in the 2010 New Years Honours list. Her award-winning tailoring business based
in a Georgian town house in Islington, and formerly based in Bond Street, has been established for 20 years. Imtaz
creates exclusive garments for both men and
women. She has vast experience in designing suits and dresses for special
occasions such as weddings. She also holds one on one
tailoring classes, which have been featured in Time Out magazine.
Imtaz enjoys a high profile client base, having designed for pop star Dina
Carroll, actress Michelle Pfeiffer, newsreader Kay Burley, supermodel Tatjana Pattiz, and newsreader Mishal Husain. Her
tailoring work has been widely featured in the press including the BBC, Channel 4,
GMTV, The Face, Tatler, and Cosmopolitan. She has talked at many events at the
British Library, London City Hall, and the House of Lords. Imtaz was photographed by Jason Bell in the Sunday Times
Magazine as 'The Next Big Thing', and was featured in the Financial Times article 'MBE for Campaigning Tailor',
championing education, skills, equality for women, and black and ethnic minorities in fashion. Imtaz will become an honorary fellow of Bradford College in a ceremony on 6th December 2011.
Imtaz was born in Bradford where she had her first tailoring business at the age of eighteen, and is of Pakistani
origin and has had a passion for tailoring from the age of ten. She enjoys sharing her skills and experience and sits on
several government boards. She has worked in executive shopping in Harrods, Harvey Nichols, and Sacs Fifth Avenue in
the USA.
Imtaz met the Queen in March 2010 at a Buckingham Palace reception for the clothing industry with Stephen Jones,
Marie O'Reagan (who taught Imtaz at the London College of Fashion in 1989), and David Bailey.
Imtaz trained and taught at London College of Fashion and the University of Westminster, and trained at Jacob Kramer
College Leeds.
